A small group has come together to help make this winter a lit bit warmer for the dogs spending time at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control while they wait to be adopted.
The initiative, named Fleeces for Fido, is carried out by volunteers Danielle Kleinrichert and Rachel Schul. It takes place on an independent basis from the animal shelter. They hand craft “coats” for the dogs, which they hope will not only keep them warm but may entice someone to choose them to be their next furry companion.
Kleinrichert told a reporter from Fox 86 that a cute coat on one of the dogs might catch a visitor’s eye and encourage them to adopt the canine for their own. Should they choose to do so, a company that makes Presentation Folders can Print ones for the facility that is full of all the information a pet owner may need to give their new friend the best of care.
Though the floors of the kennels are warm, they are designed in such a way that their occupants can go outside as they please, meaning they could use some extra protection from the cold.
So far, the two have been able to make 100 of the coats, and they have set a goal for themselves of making 200 more. Anyone who would like to make a donation to help them is encouraged to visit the shelter and do so.
