Charlotte stomps out cancer

Very soon, health-minded individuals can take part in a race while supporting a good cause.

The Sarcoma Stomp features a 5K and a 3K race. The chip-timed 5K route will go through two Charlotte neighborhoods, Mammoth Oaks and Lansdowne. The family friendly 3K will take participants through Mammoth Oaks.

After the event, there will be games, refreshments, and a raffle. No doubt a banner printing service has been busy creating large Signs for the event.

The race is a fundraiser for the Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research, a nonprofit organization. Money raised at this event will benefit the Levine Cancer Institute’s efforts to analyze the tissue of people with Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer.

Registration costs $25 plus a $2.50 online fee, and increases to $30 after April 8. Kids, aged 12 and under, cost $10. Online registration ends on April 15 at 10:00 pm. Those who register before April 13 are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Packet pickup takes place on April 16 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at TrySports Blakeney and also on April 17 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church.

Race day registration and packet pickup starts on April 18 at 7:00 am. The 3K begins at 8:00 am while the 5K kicks off at 8:30 am.

The event begins at Christ Lutheran Church on 4545 Providence Road.
