Charlotte residents race to the top

This month, Charlotte residents can lace up their running shoes and compete in an unique race event.

The Race to the Top challenges participants to climb to the 50th floor of the Duke Energy Center, located at 550 South Tryon Street in Charlotte. This year the race is limited to 750 participants. Climbers will be organized into flights and classifications, such as beginners, intermediates, advanced, teams, and first responders.

Registration costs $35 for each individual and $30 for first responders. The cost is $140 for teams. Those who are interested in the event may only register online on the Charlotte Sports website, and they need to be at least 13 years old to participate.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation is sponsoring the event, and has partnered to help the Levine Children’s Hospital. Participants can fundraise for the event and anyone can make a donation to the hospital.

After the race, there will be a party located on Levine Avenue of the Arts, at which food, drinks, music, and contests will be available. It is likely that businesses have used flyer printing to make handouts for distribution during the post-race party. Awards for the quickest climbers in various categories will be given out. In addition, there will be a cash prize for the best overall time for both men and women.

Race to the Top is scheduled for this Saturday, May 3 at 8:30 am. Check-in begins at 7:30 am.
