The summer’s heat can help to produce tasty tomatoes, and these popular fruits will be taking pride of place during the Charlotte Homegrown Tomato Festival.
This daylong event will be filled with all things tomato. There will be dozens of varieties for the public to sample and find out what makes each one special, and they can even pick up some to take home with them. They will be locally grown and fresh from the field or garden.
The event will also see the crowning of the region’s top tomato grower, and there will be food available for purchase and also entertainment. There will be a variety of vendors on site with products and services to browse through, and the whole occasion is planned to offer fun in the summer sun. Print shops can supply everything from Banners to award certificates for an occasion like this.
Funds raised through this afternoon of activities will be used by 100 Gardens to help meet the expenses of its initiatives that introduce local students to aquaponics by assisting with the construction of labs and the development of curriculum that includes this model for food production.
