App makes local snakes seem less mysterious

With the arrival of warmer weather, more people from Charlotte and the surrounding area are heading out to enjoy hiking or other outdoor activities. An app has been developed to help make it a little bit safer.

Cyrus Bahram, who recently graduated from Davidson College, appreciates snakes and the role they play in the ecosystem of the area. He wanted to create something that would allow people to quickly identify these scaly reptiles using their mobile device, so he set to work developing the app he named ‘Snakes of North Carolina’.

The product not only provides identification characteristics for the reptiles, it also gives more information about them, such as what they eat and where they live. His goal is to make them seem less scary and more interesting. As Bahram pointed out, most snakes are shy and not aggressive, biting only if they feel threatened or cornered.

Along with photos and other details of the snakes, the app give tips about how to avoid being bitten, should the snake be one of the dangerous varieties, and what to do should a bite occur. A booklet printing company can create Brochures and other publications that can also help people to learn more about the snakes they may meet when they are enjoying spending time outdoors.

So far, the app has been downloaded 3,600 times, which is far more than the 500 Mr. Bahram expected. It can be found on iTunes, where it is free to download.
