Annual marathon renamed in honor of Charlotte

Charlotte’s annual Novant Health Thunder Road Marathon will now have a new title.

The race, which is set to take place in the fall, has renamed itself as the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon. According to race director Tim Rhodes, the organization has always taken pride in being considered Charlotte’s marathon, and the new name pays homage to the city that has always shown it so much support.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts remarked that it is a great honor for Charlotte and the surrounding area to have had the event renamed after it. To help add to the city’s sense of ownership over the event, a tagline has been developed: “Our Streets. Our City. Our Marathon #runcharlotte” . This can be included on all the Promotional Products used to promote the marathon to both the local community and further afield as well.

The course for the race follows 2.2 miles of city streets and runs through many of its most prominent neighborhoods. Each year, it attracts both runners and those who support them, which provides an economic boost to the city.

Those who are interested in taking part in the 2016 marathon, which takes place on November 12, are invited to visit RunCharlotte.com. Even those who do not wish to run or walk will still have an opportunity to participate as a volunteer or to just act as a cheering section to encourage runners to keep going when they feel their energy levels start to drop.
