St. Charles to return to the past with Halloween festival

Legends & Lanterns will come to St. Charles next month. The festival is a new St. Charles tradition and has been held for the past six years.

The event will explore Halloween’s past, as Main Street will be transformed to reflect traditions that have influenced the modern holiday. Attendees can learn some of this history, too. Organizers are planning activities that explore a host of spooky topics like the Mexican Day of the Dead, mourning traditions, and America’s gothic tradition. There will also be screenings of vintage movies, which will include classic monster films and sci-fi B-movies.

Various shops along Main Street will also partake in Halloween festivities and can be identified by Jack-o-lantern decorations. Some of these shops will offer discounts, and visitors can take this chance to start some holiday shopping. For those looking for items to commemorate the night by, the Tourism Center will have souvenirs and official T-Shirts. These items typically offer a unique graphic design to celebrate the event.

Legends & Lanterns will take place from October 16 to 24, where it will be open during the weekend. Entry to the festival is free, and guests can find the festival at 230 South Main Street.
