Midwest Maifest will return to St. Charles next month. The festival will mark the start of spring and recognize local German culture.
German settlers arrived in St. Charles in the 1830s and have had a significant impact on the city’s heritage and history. Guests can expect to learn about this heritage while enjoying live entertainment, music, and authentic German food.
Local breweries and wineries will also offer samples of their products throughout the festival. Also, vendors usually give out Promotional Products and other free goods at such events.
The festival will also be adorned with traditional German decorations and arrangements. One notable feature included is the festival’s maibaum - a wooden pole or tree trunk decorated with ribbons and wreaths. The maibaum has its origins in folk festivals where it is put up at the start of May.
The rest of the festival space will also be decorated with flowers and other floral displays.
The event will take place on May 16 between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Entry to the festival is free, but anyone wanting to try product samples must purchase a wristband and be over the age of 21. Wristbands are $25 if pre-purchased and $35 at the event. Proceeds from the event will help the St. Charles sister cities program. Guests can find the festival at the New Town Amphitheater.
