The 14th Annual Missouri River Irish Fest will be coming in a few days. The three-day event will celebrate Irish culture through music, food, crafts, and activities.
Entertainment will include Irish dance groups such as the Clarkson Dancers, and the Shamrock Dancers; Irish lilts from the Irish Aires, Celtica, and the Redheaded Strangers; and a Beardly Man Contest. There will be raffle drawings on the last two days.
Katy Depot will be presenting a historical exhibit about the Fighting Irish, while St. Louis Gaelic Athletic Club will give demonstrations on hurling, football and camogie (a women’s version of hurling). Everyone will be invited to a free ceilidh dance (for beginners as well as those who have danced these traditional dances before), view boxing by the Irish Outlaw -Ryan Coyne, and learn some Irish words under the tutelage of Dennis Cochran.
The Pot of Gold playground will have inflatables, crafts, storytelling, face painting, and meet-and-greets with Irish dancers. Pictures taken with the dancers may be taken to local Print shops for poster printing. Kids can learn how to dance an Irish jig and dig for gold.
One-hour sessions will be presentations about adult and student exchanges that are available in the Sister Cities Program.
Missouri River Irish Fest 2018 is coming May 25 from 5:00 to 11:00 pm, May 26 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, and May 27 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at 222 S. Riverside Drive.
