For St. Charles residences looking for something to do in this spring weather, there will be two festivals coming on May 18.
One will be the free Historical Children’s Festival, a celebration of the National Kids to Parks Day and the St. Charles Sestercentennial. The two-day event will be at the First Missouri State Capital State Historical Site, 200 S. Main St. Attendees can see how children played and lived back in the 1820s. Storytellers will relate tales of St. Charles’ first legislators as they wrestled with Missouri becoming a state. The venue will also have 1820s skills demonstrations, reenactments, and music.
Another Sestercentennial event will be in full swing from Saturday at 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Sunday from noon until 5:00 pm. The Sestercentennial Festival will be on Main Street and Frontier Park at 500 S. Riverside Drive. A Stroll Down Memory Lane will be a walk in front of large scale photo back drops depicting places, people, and moments from long ago. Sometimes people take pictures of themselves and their families at events such as this to take to local Print shops to be made into family albums and family yearly Calendars.
Along the walk, attendees will meet actors portraying groups and key figures that played pivotal roles in our history over the past 250 years, view historic demonstrations, and watch the ‘A Tale of Three Cities’ dramatization. There will also be a parade.
