New August date for St. Charles childrens festival

National Kids to Parks Day was to be commemorated with The Historical Children’s Festival, originally scheduled for May 16, but the St. Charles-based festival has been put back by three months.

The festival will now become part of the First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site’s Statehood Day.

The free festival will be a day when kids today can play and work as their counterparts in the 1820s. After getting passports, guests can participate in activities such as quill pen writing, butter churning, and using a washboard. Filled passports can be redeemed for prizes. Other activities will include music, reenactment groups, and period skills demonstrations.

Sometimes families like to dress in period costumes and take pictures of family members trying out these activities. The pictures can then go to local Stationery printers to become part of family Calendars or personalized note cards.

Traditionally, The First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site’s Statehood Day celebrates Missouri becoming the country’s 24th state. This August will be its 199th anniversary. Guests will be invited to tour the buildings used by senators and legislators that organized our new state from 1821 -1826. State trivia, state symbol displays, stories and historic demonstrations will depict the journey to statehood. Hours are usually 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

The Historical Children’s Festival will now be held at 200 South Main from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on August 8th.
