The Foundry Art Centre will hold its first “Block Party” during the Father’s Day weekend. The event is a family-friendly affair for anyone living in St. Charles.
The event is the Foundry’s attempt to “engage the community through the arts” and to raise awareness around the importance of printmaking. The party will feature outdoor activities, with a particular focus on extreme Forms of printmaking, performed with the help of heavy machinery. Using a technique rather different to that of modern Print shops, the Foundry will carve out large woodblocks and drive a steamroller over them to create prints.
Guests attending will have the chance to participate in activities, too. The Foundry has organized heavy machinery and vehicle displays that families can safely ride, and there will be interactive art projects in which everyone can partake. Food trucks and live music will also be available throughout the event.
Inside the venue, artists and sponsors will set up booths guests can browse and purchase from. Prints will also be moved inside once finished.
Block Party will take place on June 19 between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Guests can find the center on 520 Main Center, and entry for the event will be free. Anyone with more questions or inquiries can email Jessica Mannisi at jmannisi@foundryartcentre.org. The Foundry also hosts several exhibitions throughout the year for anyone interested.
