Out of 32 candidates who submitted applications for the role, the board of trustees chose John Greifzu. Applications came from regional, out-of-state, and internal sources.
The board sent out an email with news of the new hire that read:
“Board members have consistently said their priorities for a new CEO include experience in preparing, presenting and administering budgets, as well as bringing a fresh perspective to the district.”
Greifzu was serving as an assistant director after decades of service with St. Charles County before this appointment. He starts working at the library on Thursday, March 6.
Despite having no experience working in a library and not having a degree in library science, Greifzu stated in an interview that he feels his decades of managing county building projects, IT upgrades, park development, and road construction projects have prepared him for this job.
In an interview, the board president stated that Greifzu was selected over the other applicants because of his experience working with the county. Greifzu replaces Jason Kuhl, who left the job in November to take a comparable role at Oklahoma City's Metropolitan Library System. Newly appointed CEOs will usually be quick to update their Business Cards with their new role.
The board made the decision to employ Greifzu in an online meeting held behind closed doors.
