CEO of Semper Dave Regan said that printers from the Midwest were most optimistic, with those from the East Coast less so and there are Signs of positivity from the West Coast as well. He added:
"We’re not seeing the kind of optimism we saw in 2007, but we’re also not seeing the pessimism we saw the last couple of years. More than 18% are planning to hire new workers, versus only 12.2% for the previous quarter."
Printers remain concerned about the cost of health insurance and higher minimum pay for workers, but are no longer worried about the cost of overtime, says the survey.
Many printers anticipate a positive impact from the UK local, state and national elections, with an expected upturn in the amount of Direct Mail printing required. He added that fundraising is mostly done with print and that was starting to come into play.
