St. Louis restaurant to teach BBQ class

The Shaved Duck in St. Louis will be reopening its cooking class in January for those interested in learning tasty BBQ techniques.

The Intro & Fundamentals of BBQ course offers students a fun, hands-on cooking experience. During the lesson, guests will get to cook using the pellet smokers and hickory pits found in the restaurant. Several BBQ dishes will be covered in the class, including ribs, chicken thighs, brisket, and pork butt. Participants will also discover how to create their own rubs and sauces. Beverages like coffee, soda, beer, and water will be available for students throughout the day.

The instructor for the cooking course is the owner and pitmaster of The Shaved Duck, Ally Nisbet. The restaurant is also staffed by a second pitmaster, named Derek Bremer. Julia Hartenstine is the general manager of the establishment. The Shaved Duck serves various BBQ dishes and appetizers, such as duck confit, pulled pork nachos, and smoky bourbon meatloaf. The venue even offers people vegetarian and vegan options. Restaurants similar to this may share their cooking activities with others through poster printing.

The BBQ course will reopen on January 23 and will be held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost of the cooking lecture is $250 per student. The price includes a cookbook by Nisbet. There will only be 12 participants allowed in the kitchen per course.
