St. Louis architects undergo change of scene
Architectural firm HOK is relocating its downtown office from the Metropolitan Square Building to the Equitable Building. The two buildings are both on Broadway, a few blocks apart.
One of the biggest companies in its sector in the St. Louis region, HOK boasts 397 licensed architects, 34 of them in St. Louis itself, and reportedly billed $22.4m for local projects last year.
HOK has been leasing space in Metropolitan Square, which it designed, since 1998 and plans to leave when its lease expires at the end of this year. Its new home, the Equitable Building, where it will lease 39,000 square feet over two floors, opened its doors in 1971. The building offers a total of 424,000 square feet of space.
HOK originally designed the Equitable Building, and now plans to make some changes to the outdoor area. There is a two-story space in the office, which the firm uses for company meetings and community events. The outdoor plaza will provide an outdoor enlargement of this space, and will feature a stairway that can also function as bleacher-type seating, or simply a quiet space for people to sit.
HOK is bound to need to work with a business card printing company to create cards and other accessories for its architects and other employees who will be at the new address.
