New Line Theatre gets ready to open its season
New Line Theatre is planning to open its 2016 season with ‘Celebration’, a musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones (no, not that Tom Jones).
Schmidt and Jones are the team that created ‘The Fantasticks’, which ran for more than 42 years at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village, earning it the title of the longest running musical in the world. They also created mainstream shows like ‘110 in the Shade’ and ‘I Do! I Do!’, both of which ran on Broadway.
The original production of Celebration opened in 1969, and is described as a jazz-rock musical aimed at an adult audience. The small cast plays multiple parts as the play presents the misadventures of a young man named Orphan, who finds himself in the lavish home of Mr. Rich, the wealthiest man on earth. There he meets the beautiful Angel, who literally is an angel, and helps Mr. Rich rediscover his humanity. The two end up rivals for Angel’s love, and the play examines issues such as youth and age, poverty and wealth, and several other pertinent issues.
Celebration will run from September 29 to October 22 at the Marcelle Theater in Grand Center in St. Louis.
Companies like these can benefit by working with poster printing companies who can create colorful placards for individual shows.
