Holiday concert coming to St. Louis courtesy of the Air Force
A concert featuring music of the holidays is on the way to St. Louis, thanks to the U.S. Air Force.
The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America will present its Holiday Concert soon, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral on Lindell Boulevard. The concert this year is called “Holiday Traditions” and will feature both vocal performances and holiday instrumentals played by the Concert Band and other ensembles. The ensembles associated with the Concert Band include the Airlifter Brass Quintet; a jazz ensemble called the Shades of Blue; and Starlifter, which plays popular music.
The Concert Band comprises 45 members, and plays a wide variety of material from masterworks for the symphonic band to marches, jazz, and popular music. Songs from composers frequently associated with the military, such as Major Glenn Miller, and John Philip Sousa, are often featured, and talented vocalists also appear.
The Concert Band plays throughout a 10-state area in the Midwest, and has also performed for troops, both abroad and at home. The group has also served as back up for guests such as Jamie Farr of M*A*S*H fame, and Bob Hope, and according to one review, “wowed” its audience.
The concert is scheduled to take place from 3:00 pm until 5:30 pm, on December 15 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Admission is free. Banner printing can be used to decorate venues used for events like this.
