The Mound Fire Department will be organizing a community event in October to raise awareness for fire prevention.
The Fire Prevention Open House is a program where families can learn how to protect themselves from fire-related dangers while enjoying fun activities. There will be hands-on projects to complete at the event and fire safety displays for guests to view. Guests may even take rides on the department’s fire trucks. A special display will be set up in honor of the department’s Centennial Celebration. Visitors will also be treated to refreshments.
The Mound Fire Department was created in 1923 and currently has over 40 firefighters working in the organization. The group provides several services in addition to combatting fires, such as ice rescues, medical rescue responses, and auto extrication. The town’s first fire chief was George Kickhafer. Those interested in assisting the department can donate to the Mound Volunteer Fire Department Relief Association. Money given to the organization is used for firefighter equipment like safety vests, radios, and helmets.
The open house event will be on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00 pm. There is no cost for families to visit the Mound Fire Department, and registration is also not required for the department’s program. Organizations in charge of similar community gatherings can utilize banner printing services to construct easily noticeable ads for their events.
