Mound area game marathon to return

A Twin Cities area tradition of recent vintage will be returning this New Year’s Day, as the Wright County Geeks organization rings in 2026 with their 12th annual Game-A-Thon.

The event features 12 hours of open tabletop gaming. This includes board games, collectible card games like Magic: the Gathering, roleplaying games including Dungeons & Dragons’ Adventurers League, and miniature wargaming. Games will be designed to be open to new players, including one-shot roleplaying adventures. Events like this sometimes use flyer printing for schedules and quickly teaching games’ rules.

There will be scheduled games hosted by “Game Masters” teaching the rules and guiding the experience, as well as a library of over 100 games for visitors to choose between. Attendees can also bring their own favorite games and introduce them to new people. There will also be door prizes, and a game swap table for those looking to trade out one of their old tabletop games for a new one.

In addition to the pen, paper, and cardboard, there will be computers and video game consoles open for video gaming. The Game-A-Thon will also feature a movie lounge with family-friendly flicks for those looking for a break. The annual gathering is organized by Wright County Geeks with the goal of welcoming families and gamers of all ages from nearby areas like Minneapolis and Mound.

The 2026 Game-A-Thon will take place at the Buffalo Community Center in Buffalo, Minnesota throughout the day of January 1.
