Recruiters and students converge at Farmington Hills festival

A weekend dedicated to learning, networking, and artistic growth for dancers, educators, and professionals is coming to Farmington Hills.

The Oakland Dance Festival brings together college representatives and directors from professional companies. Participants include private dance studios, high school programs, and individual students. The event will be packed with master classes, on-site recruitment, scholarship auditions, performance opportunities, and showcase concerts.

Teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 years will be able to take part in various master classes, get feedback on their choreographic works, and even be able to perform during the College Showcase Concert. Teams usually wear uniforms with their unique Logo Design on all of them.

High school students either in grade 10 or 12 who want to pursue dancing while in college or who wish to learn more during summer programs can audition at ODF. Some benefits that accompany these auditions include getting priority admission consideration and having opportunities to get awarded for academic achievements. In the past years, some of the colleges that have participated include Eastern Michigan University (EMU), Wayne State University (WSU)’s Department of Theatre and Dance Program, University of Michigan’s Department of Dance (UM) and other universities and colleges offering summer intensives whereby some students won scholarships.

The Oakland Dance Festival will be held on November 22nd in Farmington Hills. The College Showcase Concert on November 23 will highlight performances by college dance companies and select youth performers from the evaluation sessions.
