June and July music in Farmington Hills

Summer in Farmington Hills brings the magic of music with it.

The Stars in the Park series of concerts begins soon, at the Heritage Park Amphitheater. The concerts take place Thursday evenings, from 7.00 pm until 8.30 pm, so they are suitable for families with children.

Although no pets or alcohol can be brought, attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy a picnic while they listen to the music.

The series begins this year on June 11, with the Farmington Community Band. This 95-piece ensemble plays symphonic works. June 18 brings Captured Detroit, a Journey tribute band. June 25 is another rock concert, with the band Atomic Radio, who are based in Detroit and cover hits from hip-hop, rock, pop, and the Top 40.

July 16 brings a performance by students at the School of Rock Farmington. On July 23, Sheila Landis & The Brazilian Love Affair will be offering Latin sounds of the cha-cha, Spanish flamenco, samba, and bossa nova, along with a bit of jazz and surf rock.

July 30 brings the FCB Big Band, jazz musicians who recreate the music of the Big Band Era, featuring jazz of greats like Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Country music arrives August 6 with The Whiskey Charmers, and Motown comes to town August 13 with Serieux Motown. The season ends August 20 with the Farmington Community Chorus.
