Farmington Hills names new assistant manager

Gary Mekjian, who has served since November 2010 as Farmington Hills' Director of Public Services, has been named to the post of Assistant City Manager. He took over his new management function on Tuesday, February 16.

Prior to coming to Farmington Hills, Mekjian worked in Southfield as the city's Director of Public Works and Engineering, which was a position he held for four years. He is also an adjunct instructor at Southfield's Lawrence Technological University.

The new recruit also served Lincoln Park as its Director of Public Works and Engineering, and before that he was West Bloomfield Township's Director of Engineering.

Mekjian has an engineering background, holding a Bachelor’s from Michigan State University in civil engineering, a Master's from Wayne State University in civil engineering, and a Master's from Central Michigan University with an emphasis on public administration. He was an engineering consultant before entering the public sector. He lives with his wife Heidi, and their children Kara and Ethan, in Salem Township.

Farmington Hills officials could consider several printing projects to accommodate Mekjian's addition to the staff. They will need to utilize the services of a Stationery printer in order to create appropriate Letterheads for Mekjian's use, and will also need to engage a business card printing company to create cards, which should match the Letterheads in style.
