Cult pop band to visit near Farmington Hills

Royal Oak, a municipality located less than 20 minutes from Farmington Hills, will host a performance by the American cult-followed pop group Sparks to see in the weekend. It will take place at the Royal Oak Music Theatre.

Brothers Ron and Russell Mael first formed Sparks in 1966 while they were living in Los Angeles. After recording their first few albums, the pair began a tour of the UK. There, they gained a cult following and began appearing in popular UK magazines and TV shows.

Many of their songs, such as ‘Amateur Hour’ and ‘Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth,’ became top hits. This set a trend for the duo, as most of their songs have been more popular in Europe than in the U.S., despite a loyal cult following here. Since then, they have continued releasing hit albums and songs for these markets.

The band is mostly known for its quirky approach to songwriting, accompanied by unusually sophisticated lyrics for the genre. In addition, their stage presence can be peculiar and theatrical.

The Sparks concert will take place this Friday, April 1, starting at 7:30 pm. The Royal Oak Music Theater is located at 318 W 4th St Royal Oak, Michigan. Tickets start at $35. Bands like Sparks may be interested in poster printing services for merchandising and promotional purposes.
