Local historian to give presentation at Waldorf library

The P.D. Brown Memorial Library in Waldorf will hold an event about the history of Charles County.

Our Past: Charles County History is a presentation that shares the local history of those who lived along the Port Tobacco River. The presenter for the program is Don Zimmer, an artist and former Air Force member. The lecture will talk about the marginalized people of Charles County and use paintings as visual references for the topics discussed at the event. The intended age group for Zimmer's presentation will include teens and adults.

Don Zimmer is a local historian who was interested in recreating the history of the Port Tobacco River through paintings after finishing a piece in 2010. Zimmer's wife is a member of the Maryland Master Gardeners, and she and Zimmer help out the Port Tobacco River Conservancy. The duo helps monitor the health and ecology of the river by testing bacteria for the conservancy. Zimmer has finished many paintings in his career, such as The Legend of the Blue Dog and View From Chandler's Hope.

The presentation on the Port Tobacco River will take place on Thursday, January 23rd from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. No attendee has to pay to take part in Zimmer's history lecture, and advance registration is not required. Libraries that host community events on local history like this may use poster printing to make advertisements for their patrons.
