Guitar producer tuned up with grant

A grant of $300,000 has been made to assist a business based in Stevensville.

According to officials who work for the state of Maryland, PRS Guitars will be obliged to hire 20 personnel and stay in its county for 10 years if it wants to take the resources. The idea is that the organization will invest in the production of acoustic guitars.

At present, nearly 250 employees work for PRS Guitars on a full-time basis. The enterprise currently focuses on the manufacture of electric guitars. If it is entering into a period of acoustic guitar production, it could contact a Print company in Stevensville to make this point clear to potential customers.

Paul Reed Smith, who started the outfit, has told Capital Gazette:

"Probably the most enjoyable thing we do here is give tours. Business in general can be difficult, but that tour is wonderful because you get to watch a guitar start at the very beginning and come out as a musical instrument."

Jamie Gilbert, who works for Queen Anne’s County, has explained the rationale behind the decision to make the grant to the company. He has contended that the business has the capacity to attract other businesses to the area. In addition, he has pointed out that PRS Guitars can serve as a draw for tourists. In the past, the state has given the business a significant loan to help it expand.
