The United Way Digital Equity Program has expanded to include independent schools in Grant country including Erlanger/Elsmere Independent School District. This program was created by the United Way of Cincinnati.
The program is designed to give students in K-12th grade free Internet access for six months. The program will help low income families with virtual learning in Erlanger and other school districts. The United Way has expanded its fund raising to include 1,000 Northern Kentucky homes.
The project was created because digital inequity creates unequal opportunities for access to technology and virtual learning. Families that do not have Internet access are at a disadvantage for participating in online learning. This problem became more noticeable during the school shutdowns.
Local schools in Erlanger/Elsmere are eager to be enrolled in this digital equity program. They know the importance of virtual learning for children to stay connected and keep up with learning.
Schools in Erlanger/Elsmere will have virtual learning combined with one on one sessions at local schools. There will not return to the five day a week school schedule. This increases the need for Internet access and lap top computers for learning.
Amanda Green a local United Way director at Northern Kentucky Area Center says there is still time to help sponsor more homes by donations from individuals and businesses. Erlanger has Print shops that design Corporate Gifts for promotional and fundraising campaigns like this.
