The Milestones Equestrian Achievement Program will be available for children throughout Kentucky, including Erlanger, Taylor Mill and Nicolson, during the summer months.
The Horse Tales program was designed for students in grades one through eight. Many children are unwilling to practice reading with their parent at home, and find reading aloud at school difficult. During the program, children are invited to read aloud to their chosen therapy horse. The idea is that the child’s self-confidence is increased by the horse’s unconditional acceptance, and soothing presence.
Children are required to bring a book (of the appropriate reading level), with them to the event. Books can be from home, or from the program’s partner, the Kenton County Public Library (Durr Branch). The library will also provide each child with a complimentary book and free horse-themed bookmark. Printing services may be used to specially create the materials donated for at therapy sessions like this.
