Tony Brendel stepped up from his role as assistant to became Police Chief of Erlanger on December 1. This followed the retirement of Tony Wilson, who had worked for the police department for 25 years.
Brendel has some new goals for the police department, including that he wants expanded community outreach and more contact with elected officials. He also says he would like to develop some community programs that help families see the police in a more positive light and increase their involvement in local schools.
The new police chief wants all department employees to be prepared for promotions available to them. He wants to have greater training for employees so they can move up the ladder.
While working in the police department, Brendel has served as school resource officer, police patrol officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and assistant chief of police. He has been with the department for 19 years.
The new Chief recently graduated from the FBI National Academy’s 10-week training program, and was selected by the Erlanger Police Department and Kentucky FBINA Association board to attend.
When he was a school resource officer, he was responsible for teaching the anti-drug DARE program to students for 11 years. He has a wife, daughter, and two sons.
Erlanger has many printing companies that can help city departments, non-profit organizations, and clubs with marketing services.
