Erlanger Library to screen classic musical movie

The Erlanger Library will host a screening of the film Singin' in the Rain on the week of Thanksgiving. This film screening will be a part of the library's monthly Musical Matinee set of events.

It took some time for Singin' in the Rain to become a beloved classic movie. Upon its initial release in 1952, it garnered only a minor amount of fame and profit, but in 1989, the Library of Congress decided to preserve the film in its National Film Registry. Over the years since, many critics have repeated named it one of the best films of all time in several lists, including those from Empire magazine and the British Film Institute.

The plot of the film is primarily a romance between two film actors. Around them, the film industry is transitioning from the silent film era into the talkies era. As the male lead, Don Lockwood (played by Gene Kelly), pursues the female lead, Kathy Selden (played by Debbie Reynolds), the movie studio where they work desperately tries to cobble together a talkie film out of one that was originally supposed to be silent with lackluster results. As this happens, Don and Kathy are thrown into the midst of the production and do their best to help it succeed.

The Erlanger Library at 401 Kenton Lands will screen the film next Tuesday, November 22, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Anne Room. Libraries can benefit from using poster printing services to promote their events.
