As part of the celebration of shark week, the Erlanger branch of the Kenton County Public Library is teaming up with the Newport Aquarium to bring in the Shark Cart.
The program will combine education and fun as visitors get to interact with some of the ocean’s most famous predators.
The Shark Cart is a mobile shark tank - the only one of its kind in the country. The event is hosted by Ric Urban of the Newport Aquarium, who will guide attendees through the ins and outs of the live sharks present at the event. The sharks are epaulette sharks, and plenty of safety and emergency equipment will be in place to protect both the humans and sharks present.
Additionally, there will be some extra items for visitors to get acquainted with having to do with the history and life of sharks. Shark jaws, teeth, eggs, and more will give insight into the life-cycle of the creatures. A can of shark fin soup and other items will help highlight the often damaging relationship that human beings have had with the animals throughout history. People with a thirst for knowledge can also find resources on the aquarium website with lesson materials that can be used to create Presentation Folders for students.
The Shark Cart will come to the Kenton County Public Library, located at 401 Kenton Lands Rd, on July 16 at 2:00 pm. Attendance is free, but space is limited and seats will be given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
