Portage firefighters offered seats in upcoming course
Firefighters from Portage and the surrounding area who would like to add to their skillset can do so when they participate in a continuing education opportunity.
The MAAC Training Campus in Valparaiso has set the start date for its Fire Instructor IN - District 1 course, which will be running through the month of December. The learners will receive training to allow them to meet the minimum job performance requirements set out in the NFPA 1041: Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications.
The instruction is intended to equip attendees with skills related to company administration and operations at the level of a first line supervisor. They will be taught how to effectively deliver instruction utilizing a prepared lesson plan, and instructional aids and various evaluation instruments will be introduced. Record keeping, organizing a learning space, and how to adapt the learning model for the unique requirements of a particular group will all be included.
Along with the opportunity to learn, the session will include the students delivering an institutional presentation, and this will be a requirement to receive their certification. Stationery printers can design certificates of completion along with other items that may be utilized during an educational activity.
