Gurnee moves to solve water pressure problems
The water pressure on Gurnee's west side can be low, but the city is moving to correct the issue.
A two-part project is now underway, beginning with brush removal near Almond Road and Washington Street. In addition, a Lake Michigan water pipeline will be extended to Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, and two other unincorporated areas.
According to Scott Drabicki, the village's engineer, the first part of the project will be to install a meter that will measure how much water is being provided to Gurnee from Lake Michigan. Once determined, that project will be followed by a new pumping station to help increase water pressure in the area. The station will be built to resemble a residence, but construction on the building probably will not begin until January 2018. The entire project should be finished by December 2019.
According to Gurnee officials, the new pumping station ties in with plans for a water tower that will be built on the west side. The tower is expected to help increase water pressure and also provide extra storage for water. Kristina Kovarik, Gurnee's mayor, said the proposed site has the proper topography for both the pumping station and the meter.
By working with a flyer printing company, those behind this sort of project can create an informative mailer for area residents.
