Beautiful music comes to Gurnee area
Gurnee residents will have a chance to hear a concert celebrating America soon.
The Waukegan Symphony Orchestra plans to present an “America the Beautiful” concert, featuring a wide range of compositions. The program comprises “Juba” from R. Nathanael Dett's “In the Bottoms” Suite; “Six Pieces for String Orchestra” by Ulysses Kay; and Paul Creston's “Concertino for Marimba.” After the intermission, the orchestra will play Dvorak's “American Suite in A major,” and the Hoe-Down section from “Rodeo” by Aaron Copland.
The “In the Bottoms” Suite, which was published in 1913, has five movements; “Juba” is the last, and is a lively dance tune. Ulysses Kay, who wrote five operas, was best known for his choral and symphonic works, composed mostly in the neoclassical style. Paul Creston's works were often inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman, and are noted for their strong rhythms.
Antonin Dvorak is probably most familiar to audiences for his Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” while Aaron Copland's work is instantly recognizable to many listeners. Brochure printing can be used to create attractive, informative programs for audiences at events like this.
At this time, the concert is scheduled for May 17, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, at the Orlin Trapp Auditorium on Brookside Avenue in Waukegan near Gurnee. Those who are interested in attending this event should check with the venue in case there are any changes in the schedule.
