A local treasure now has a new home high atop another of the area’s landmark businesses.
The item in question is a seven-foot rooster, which has been nicknamed ‘Rudy’ and has stood proudly on the roof of Jim’s Coffee Shop on Front Street since the 1960s. When word got out that the business was going to close, many people from the community were wondering what would happen to the bird.
Nick West, who owns a local restaurant, was proud to give Rudy a new home. The rooster will now be perched on top of Delsa’s Ice Cream Parlor, which is located on Ustick Road.
West remarked that he is pleased to be have been able to make sure that the Boise icon will still be part of the city’s character. He went on to say that he and the owner of Jim’s Coffee Shop, Dave Fellows, are good friends, and that he was happy to purchase the rooster, and in a way, keep it in the family.
‘Rudy’ could even be used to help brand the restaurant, and can be included on Menus, staff uniforms, receipts and any Promotional Products that the business uses to market itself to potential customers.
While West will not say exactly how much he paid, he commented that, in his opinion, the sign is priceless.
