Outing scheduled for Boises beginner birders

The Boise chapter of the Audubon Society has an event in the works that will share its members’ love of birding with the public.

The group will be leading a beginner-friendly bird hike that will follow the Bethine Church River Trail, spotting a variety of species as they go. It will introduce the participants to the birds that live in riparian habitats, and the route will be flat and between one and two miles in length.

During the outing, attendees will learn how to get the most from their binoculars and field guides, and spotting tricks will also be shared. Tips and advice will be given for observing birds without disturbing them, and everyone will be asked to collect any litter they find so that the trail will be in even better shape after they have left for home. Among the species participants can expect to see are woodpeckers, ducks, songbirds, and geese, and they may even be lucky enough to spot their first “lifer.”

Hosting an activity like this gives the public an easy and fun introduction to bird watching. Supplying the attendees with field guides, species checklists, and promotional Pens will make it easier for them to identify and keep track of what they see, and these can be prepared by local Print shops.

The Golden Eagle Audubon Society has scheduled this introductory excursion for October 10. The gathering area for the group will be located at 2153 East Riverwalk Drive.
