Boise workshop to showcase tree biology for arborists

Boise arborists who would like to add to their toolbox of skills will soon be able to do so if they register for a daylong workshop that will focus on the biology of trees.

The instruction will introduce the anatomy and physiology of trees, including how the entire plant grows and functions. This will be provided through the perspective of the horticulturalist, and will include details about a variety of tree care practices.

The workshop will open with a review of the parts of a tree and how they function, and this will continue throughout the morning with a more in-depth exploration of topics such as apical dominance, cambial growth and the effect hormones can have on a plant. After lunch, the learning will continue with a discussion of photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and how a plant’s environment can dictate its growth.

The students will also find out how they can apply what they have learned to the everyday performance of their duties. It is open to PNW-ISA members, nonmembers and allied professionals alike, as well as students, and the registration fee begins at $90. CEU credits may be awarded, and Stationery printers can provide custom designed certificates that indicate an individual has completed this training.

The Tree Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology for Arborists workshop will be offered on November 15 at 1700 W University Drive. More details about both the instructor and his qualifications can be found on the event’s listing.
