Boise workshop to shine a light on lamp making

Upcycling is a way of giving new life to old items, and a Boise workshop will teach those who participate how to rescue old lamps that are on their way to the landfill and turn them into something they can be proud of.

The DIY Lamp Making session will see students taking old, unwanted lighting fixtures and combining them with new parts to give them a fresh new look. The instruction will equip the participants with a basic knowledge of how electric lights work, their parts, how to drill holes in an assortment of materials, and how to put all of this together to create a brand new lighting fixture they can take home with them.

The JUMP Make Studio, which will be hosting the event, will have materials on hand for anyone who needs them, and people are welcome to bring along their own as well. The ticket price will be $25, and the course is open to anyone aged 13 and up. A community maker space like this can use newsletter printing to keep its membership, and the rest of the public as well, abreast of its latest offerings.

Anyone who is interested in adding to their set of craft making skills in a way that can help to light up the world is welcome to register for the workshop through the JUMP website. It has been planned for September 13th at the JUMP Make Studio.
