Boise hands-on project to benefit local environment

Boise residents who would like to give the local environment a helping hand are welcome to add their name to the list of volunteers for a local seed collection project.

Idaho Trails Association engages in a variety of stewardship projects in the state. One of these will see volunteers fan out to collect seeds from sagebrush and other native plants, and it has been described as an “easy” task with a difficulty rating of 1.

The group will be partnering with Ridge to Rivers for the activity, and it will take place at Military Reserve. The participants will learn how to collect the seeds properly so that they will have a high chance of germination, and in turn, they will be planted in the spring. Sagebrush is considered important because it is a winter food for deer, serves as shelter and habitat for other species, and prevents erosion. Even if no volunteer spaces are available, those who are interested can still add their names to the wait list for the day.

An environmental stewardship activity gives the public an opportunity to provide some hands on care to area ecosystems. Environmentally friendly Promotional Products for an event can be sourced from area printers.

The Idaho Trails Association will be heading to the Boise Foothills on Saturday, November 19 for this social activity. It will kick off at 10:00 am.
