Boise goes green in first-of-kind get-together

The city of Boise was the site for a recent meeting that sought to educate on the importance of sustainability.

Figures from the business community and representatives of well-known conservation groups came together on September 3 to share the problems and solutions in finding business practices that are environmentally sustainable.

Around 100 people came out for the event, which was hosted by the Idaho Conservation League. Entitled the Boise Sustainability Forum, it was the first event of its kind in the area, and organizers hope that it will evolve into the development of a long-term sustainability meeting of minds.

Speakers gave presentations in both the morning and the afternoon, hosted by representatives of Hewlett-Packard, Idaho Power, the Idaho Centre for Sustainable Power, and Eco Northwest, as well as a senior sustainability manager from Portland, Oregon.

Audience members were invited to ask questions and share their input. One matter that was pointed out during the day’s activities was that environmentally sustainable business practices are a good form of risk management and make economic sense.

Firms that provide printing services can offer an example of sustainability by using recycled papers and inks that are sourced using environmentally friendly methods, while also putting waste reduction programs into place. This can show that they can lead the way in operating a business using the principles of conservation.
