Bike Walk Macon recently held a Trail-O-Bration event get opening of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail extension off to a flying start. The extension connects bikers to downtown from the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historic Park.
Bike Walk Macon, with its eye-catching Logo Design that integrates a bicycle with the city’s name, was founded in 2015. The organizations goal is to create a healthier city through promoting biking and walking as a means of transportation.
Known as being the city’s voice for “biking and walking”, the nonprofit provides free resources to residents and visitors who want to learn more about their mission. The opening of the 1.7-mile section of the trail is another step in the right direction to enable cyclists and walkers to get around the city easier.
Donations of just under $130,000 from over five dozen donors made the new section possible. Bike Walk Macon realizes it cannot do what they want to do alone but the city, including the city’s mayor, are banding together with the agency to help support transportation needs in the community.
Bike Walk Macon holds a variety of free events in the area to help educate and make residents feel at ease with biking and walking when they can use that as an alternative. Often, many casual rides and conversations lead to bigger ideas and the agency wants to keep that momentum going.
