Historic school will soon become senior housing

The Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to turn the former Alexander IV School into apartments for senior living. The school was on the list of historic buildings that the Historic Macon Foundation felt should be preserved and added it along with four other buildings to their “Fading Five” list.

The new assisted living facility will have 60 units and parking to accommodate up to 60 vehicles for residents and guests as well as approximately a half dozen employees. The developer, Dover Development of Knoxville, Tennessee has not announced a planned opening date.

Owners and operators of new facilities can work with Print shops to obtain signage and poster printing services to provide information for potential residents and visitors. Many often use banner printing services to obtain Banners for grand openings and special events.

The board also approved the construction of two new hotels in the city. Hyatt had originally planned to construct a six-story hotel with 140 guest rooms on Poplar Street, however, the plans were revised and the structure will now be five stories high with 121 guest rooms.

Hilton will build a new hotel behind the current Homewood Suites by Hilton off Bass Road. The Tru by Hilton hotel has plans for 101 guest rooms. The hotels are located close to the interstate which is convenient for those traveling through the city.
