Runners will have to make a few decisions on which races they will be entering in May, as three are scheduled for the same day.
On May 4, Ed Austin Regional Parkrun 5k, a free walk or run over permanent paths, will start between the PAL building and the Disc Golf Building in the NW part of the park. It begins at 7:30 am.
Another race will be taking place in downtown Jacksonville as the Great Fire Run 5k (and 1-mile) will be commemorating the Great Fire of May 3, 1901, which decimated most of the downtown area.
The 5k run will cost $39 while the untimed walk over the same course will run $24. All proceeds will go to the Jacksonville Historical Society.
Amenities will include cotton/tri-blend T-Shirts touting this year's graphic design, goodie Bags containing giveaways, handouts and Promotional Products donated by sponsors and vendors, and finisher medals.
The race will start at 7:30 am and begin and end at the Old St. Andrews Church, 317 A. Philip Randolph Boulevard.
Yet another race on that day will be Pirate Races at Atlantic Beach. Registration fees range from $25 for the one-mile event to $65 for the half marathon. All participants will receive finisher medals, and the best costume will be chosen before each race. All races will begin at 8:00 am at 11751 McCormick Road.
