Jazz aficionados will be flocking to the annual Jacksonville Jazz Festival coming to the downtown area over Memorial Weekend.
On Thursday, May 25, the free Jazz Piano Competition will take place. Presented by Keyboard Connection, the competition has been narrowed down to five finalists chosen back in March by a group of judges using a blind rating process. The first place winner will receive $5,000 and perform during the festival. Second place will receive $2,000 and third will get $1,000.
Along with top-of-the-line jazz performers, the festival will offer a Jazz Market Place, and a Jazz Jam.
Featured performers scheduled for the Friday night at the festival will be Eric Roberson, Carmen Lundy, Eddie Palmieri, Ron Carters Foursight Quartet, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band on Friday. Marcus Miller, Pieces of a Dream, Cece Teneal, Larry Carlton, The U.S. Army Ambassadors Jazztet, and Ulysses Owens Jr. and the Generation Y will be featured on the Saturday, and Samara Joy and Shemekia Copeland will close on the Sunday.
The official online Jazz Festival Store has items sporting this year’s Jazz Festival Logo Design.
Although the event will be free, single-day preferred seating is $89 which will include dedicated padded seats, and air-conditioned bathrooms. VIP single-day tickets are $199 per day and $499 for the Full VIP Festival Experience.
Jacksonville Jazz Festival will be May 25 through 28 with a street party format in downtown Jacksonville.
