The Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair will be coming in early November.
The 10-day event will feature animals, family entertainment and carnival rides as well as agriculture.
This year’s competitions will include the Horticulture Show and Competition, where more than $1,000 in prizes will be bestowed on Jacksonville’s most beautiful plants. This contest will be open to amateur gardeners in Juniors 17 and Under, and Adults 18 and Older categories.
First place winner in the Sidewalk Mural Competition will receive $1,700, second place gets $600, and third place $300.
Teams of two to three children may enter the S.T.E.M. Challenge. Teams will be divided into Division I for children 5 to 10 years old, and Division II for kids aged 11-17. First place will be $500, second place $350, and third place $250.
The Trash Art Competition will also have two divisions – 17 and under, and adults creating 2D or 3D art pieces from trash. First place winners in each category will receive $800, second place $300, and third place $100.
Arthropods will be this year’s theme for the Welding Sculpture Competition. First place will get $1,000, second place $500, and third place $150.
Winners of competitions such as these often have their pictures taken with their winning entries. The pictures often go to local Print shops for duplicates for family and friends.
The fair will run from November 2 to 12 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, 510 Fairgrounds Place.
