The Cathedral District’s seasonal Let There Be Light even will open right after Thanksgiving.
Jacksonville residents are invited to take leisurely self-guided driving or walking tours through the Cathedral District. Landmark buildings and the district’s historic churches will be illuminated with dazzling holiday lights from November 27 through December 31.
The opening night will begin at Main Street Park at 6:00 pm when the area’s five churches ring their bells for five minutes. The park will then offer live music, and docents will be guiding tours through the historical churches. Other live bands will be situated along the route.
Audio tours will be available for the self-guided walks and rides. The tours will take visitors to Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, First United Methodist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, and Mounty Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. Other brightly lit buildings will include Elena Flats, Bedell Law Firm, and the Morocco Temple.
On Weekends (Thursday, December 9 through Sunday, December 26), the District will present a Light Art & Sound Installation from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 123 East Duval Street will offer a light show projected onto its façade repeating every 15 minutes. Performances will be accompanied by recorded music by the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus, Jacksonville Symphony, and Cathedral District Church musicians.
