The Walk to End Lupus is being held next month, hosted by the Lupus Foundation of America, Florida Chapter.
There is no entry fee to take part in the walk, but participants raise pledges or solicit donations. There are several prize levels for pledge amounts: when a participant gets $100 they can receive a T-shirt, $500 for a backpack, and $5,000 for a fleece jacket.
The event will begin with opening ceremonies and a wellness expo, the latter of which is set to feature businesses and community groups who offer products and services for those affected by Lupus. The day will finish off with an after-walk party.
Vendor spaces are still available for the wellness expo. Fees are free for nonprofit organizations and $200 for commercial businesses. Those who decide to give out free samples or prizes will receive $100 off.
For events such as these, local printing companies often provide the pledge Forms and other printed materials necessary. That way, those planning to participate can get their friends and family, who may come from nearby communities such as Hialeah, to sponsor them.
