Sunshine Slopers celebrate 30th anniversary

A South Florida-based ski club may sound like an oxymoron, but the Sunshine Slopers are marking three decades of making it work. The group will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a formal gala in Miami next month.

The celebration will take place at the Hilton Miami near the airport, and will have a ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ theme that guests are encouraged to follow in their attire. Funds raised will go toward supporting Florida youths pursuing winter sports.

Founded in 1989, the Sunshine Slopers Ski & Travel Club is a not-for-profit organization that began with a goal of organizing people from Miami and surrounding areas such as Hialeah and Key Biscane who loved winter sports. Since then, the group has expanded its focus to include travel and local social gatherings such as music festivals, theatrical performances, and more. It welcomes newcomers who may be interested in skiing, sledding, or snowboarding for the first time.

Local hobbyist organizations like the Sunshine Slopers offer an opportunity for adult socialization. Such organizations can use both social media and Print-based means of reaching out to potential members such as banner printing and poster printing. The Slopers are also affiliated with larger organizations such as the Florida Ski Council and National Brotherhood of Skiers, with which they collaborate on large events.

The gala takes place on October 13
