The HistoryMiami Museum has opened a new sports themed exhibit that explores the connections between the city of Miami and the world of sports.
HistoryMiami is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, and has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
Miami has a long history of professional sports, from Muhammed Ali spending time at the 5th Street Gym, to the Miami Heat basketball team and its three championship wins. The exhibit, titled ‘Beyond the Game: Sports & the Evolution of South Florida’ explores the relationship between professional sports and the city’s development through uniforms, Posters, interviews, documentaries, and trophies. Among the collected pieces of history are the original infield sign from Hialeah Park, which is 19 feet long, and written in pink lettering.
The exhibit is curated by Gaspar Gonzalez, a journalist and filmmaker, and includes the baseball World Series wins of the Florida Marlins, as well as the years when football’s Miami Dolphins were on top. Many museums offer commemorative Brochures, which visitors can bring home to remember some of the history that they see during their visit.
HistoryMiami’s mission is to help residents and visitors to Miami understand how the city’s past shapes its future. The museum is located at 101 W. Flagler Street in Miami, and ‘Beyond the Game’ will be open to visitors through January 15th. Contact the museum directly for more details. Get a Free Quote for Brochures Get a Free Quote for Posters
