Hialeah's Optimus gallery combines love and art

Optimus Art Gallery, a Hialeah institution that often focuses on art with a Latin American flair, is in the romantic mood.

February 17 will feature the unveiling of a new exhibition on the theme of love, fittingly titled ‘Arte y Amor’. Love and art have long intersected in everything from the work of Romantic painters to the graphic design that fuels many romantic gifts, but this exhibition looks to render the connection in a new light.

The event could be ideal for artistically-minded couples who are either celebrating Valentine's Day late or looking to hold onto the romantic feelings for a little bit longer. The exhibition will feature light appetizers and drink, as well as a live ‘art performance’ by the woman behind the art on display, Nathalie Garcia. Inspired lovers may wish to check out local Print shops or art supply stores to get started on their own work.

Garcia is a Miami-based artist whose works often mix wild, psychedelic colors with a strange, almost inhuman eroticism. She has said of her work:

"I’m not here to convince you that my reality is the correct one, but I am here to tell you the importance of finding and understanding your own reality."

She is a self-taught artist, citing Pablo Picasso's autodidacticism as an inspiration.

The Optimus gallery, which sits on Hialeah's West 29th street, has a stated goal of strengthening socio-cultural relations and giving new artists opportunities.
